Staff Accountant - Special Projects



The Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the CFO and Controller in the operations of the Finance department including a range of finance and accounting projects and managing data for financial reports, budgets and expenditures. The position will also assist with various audits and monitor individual department budgets verifying accuracy and identifying issues.  .  This position will represent ABH® and its services in a positive and professional manner and adhere to ABH®’s best practices, guidelines, policies and procedures as established, promoting ABH® as a leader in behavioral healthcare in all interactions and work.


  • Assist with the operations of the Finance department
  • Assist with audits as necessary.
  • Manage data, records, and reports by checking for errors and verifying accuracy of information
  • Prepare spreadsheets for data entry, including budgets, accounting information, etc.
  • Reconcile inventory as needed
  • Assist in preparation of financial reports
  • Ensure that finance information is easily accessible by maintaining proper files.
  • Act as Liaison between finance and all levels of staff to ensure full knowledge of all significant finance issues.
  • Monitor individual department budgets or expenditures as assigned, and identifies budget variances
  • Assist with preparation of  standard accounting reports
  • Update and maintain financial records
  • Independently prioritize daily tasks and responsibilities
  • Adhere to current accounting/finance laws and regulations
  • Provide excellent customer service to our internal and external clients and stakeholders
  • Attend and take notes at all financial department meetings
  • Maintain confidentiality of all client protected health information and adheres to all HIPAA related policies and procedures;
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and cultural sensitivity in all activities;
  • Performs other tasks/responsibilities as assigned to support the operations of the Finance department.


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in accounting, business administration, or related field or a combination of related education and work experience;
  • Compliance with current State of Connecticut and federal health and vaccine requirements.


  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, have superior organizational skills and demonstrated experience in communicating at all levels;
  • Computer knowledge and experience using Microsoft Suite (mainly Excel and Office) and other accounting and data input software;
  • Possess strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and motivational skills;
  • Proven ability to develop and sustain a high level of customer satisfaction;
  • Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and multi task as necessary to meet deadline;
  • Detail oriented a must;
  • Knowledge in basic accounting/bookkeeping practices and processes;
  • Ability to identify problems/issues, troubleshoot and resolve in a timely manner.
  • Mathematical and accounting acuity
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to verify calculations and other information
  • Ability to query and balance budgets with monthly reports
