Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) is a family-based outpatient and intensive treatment model developed as an alternative to residential treatment for severely impaired, substance-abusing youth with co-morbid psychiatric problems. This evidence-based practice has been recognized nationally and internationally as among the best approaches for treating adolescent substance abuse. It is also used in residential treatment and group home settings. Funded through the Department of Children and Families (DCF), there are currently 14 MDFT teams in Connecticut. ABH® provides quality assurance through statewide clinical consultation, training, and program development to the MDFT teams, and ensures adherence to the fidelity of the model.
