EAP Manager Groton



Responsible for managing, directing and monitoring the Hartford office / Groton Office and EAP contracts of a defined geographical territory and/or set of industries within the client book of business with assistance from the EAP Director including the clinical, training, marketing, and promotional aspects of the program.  This position ensures the highest standard of services are delivered and maintained and supports the Groton office / Hartford office in a wide variety of tasks to promote operational efficiency and soundness. This position will represent ABH® and its services in a positive and professional manner and adhere to ABH®’s best practices, guidelines, policies and procedures as established, promoting ABH® as a leader in behavioral healthcare in all interactions and work.


  • Ensure satisfaction of client contracts in the Groton region / Hartford region with the development and implementation of quality and cost effective programs through the recruitment, development, and retention of Groton office staff members / Hartford office staff members who are committed to excellence;
  • Presents regular reports to EAP Director as requested;
  • Defines and recommends specific short-term and long-term Groton office / Hartford office objectives;
  • Assists the EAP Director to market to businesses and organizations and promote the growth of Solutions EAP;
  • Integrates the EAP into the client organization for optimal internal/external balance;
  • Provide consultation services to managers and supervisors on handling troubled employees at client organizations;
  • Provides counseling services to employees and family members of customer organizations;
  • Conduct supervisor training sessions to meet specific needs of the client organization;
  • Conducts client employee education sessions on a wide variety of topics as needed and makes  appropriate referrals coordinated with medical insurance, clinical and financial needs as needed;
  • Conduct groups with client employees to cope with change, loss and trauma;
  • Provides after hours crisis intervention assessment and counseling as needed;
  • Provides coverage at Health Fairs and Safety events;
  • Manages both administrative and clinical staff;
  • Directs and provides guidance/direction for clinical staff who provide clinical assessment and brief problem solving, supporting and motivational counseling for a wide range of issues presented by employees and family members as needed;
  • Ensure staff provide appropriate referrals coordinated with medical insurance, clinical and financial needs as needed;
  • Ensure staff develop referral resources for a wide range of client employee needs, including cultural and ethnic;
  • Maintains confidentiality of all client protected health information and adheres to all HIPAA related to policies and procedures;
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and cultural sensitivity in all activities involving individuals of diverse backgrounds;
  • Performs other tasks/responsibilities as required to support the business operations.


Responsible for the supervision/management of staff assigned.  This includes; but is not limited to establishing and maintaining a working environment conducive to positive morale and teamwork; recruit and hire qualified employees; provide orientation and on-the-job training for staff.  Establish short and long term goals that are both measurable and obtainable to meet contract requirements and ensure that these expectations are clearly communicated and understood by all direct and indirect reports.  Review and approve all applicable timesheets.  Oversee the daily responsibilities of direct reports to ensure that ABH® policies and procedures are being followed and the program/department goals are being met.  Provide year-round feedback to employees, counseling, coaching, and training resources and support as necessary.  Refer performance concerns/issues to next level Manager & Human Resources Department for advice, next steps and appropriate action. Complete timely staff performance evaluations outlining clearly defining goals/expectations, secure applicable signatures/approvals and process paperwork.


  • Clinical Master’s Degree or above along with seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible related experience in human services or managed care behavioral health setting;
  • Five (5) or more years of supervisory or leadership experience, entrepreneurial in nature, and business leadership skills;
  • Preferred 5-7 years of EAP leadership experience;
  • Experience conducting employee workshops and management trainings;


  • Demonstrated level of expertise in employee assistance programs and/or program development;
  • Forward thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards;
  • High energy, enthusiastic team player capable of excelling in a fast paced, “roll up your sleeves” deadline-oriented environment;
  • Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal skills; ability to relate to people at all levels with diverse personalities in a diplomatic and professional manner;
  • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive, but able to recognize and support the organization’s preferences and priorities;
  • Demonstrated facilitation, excellent verbal & written communication skills and presentation skills;
  • Must be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and change management opportunities;
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstrated broad knowledge of mental health and substance abuse diagnosis and treatment and the role of the consultant in bringing about organizational change;
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to work on multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
  • Excellent PC skills with demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Package (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Outlook); internet.
